Welcome, everybody, to Year 4 at Woolton Primary. We are excited to welcome you back for what we hope will be an amazing year. From new clubs and trips, there are lots of things to look forward to! We have a fun and engaging core text-based curriculum here at Woolton Primary. We love to plan as many exciting opportunities as possible so that we have varied experiences and chances to step outside the classroom to explore and build curiosity. You can find our full Curriculum Overview at the bottom of the page.

Mr Pryor 4P Class Teacher, LSA Ms Owens

Dr Holmes 4H Class Teacher, LSA Mrs Harkin and Mrs Bednarska

We will have two Parents’ Evenings this year and will inform you of the dates of these as the year goes on. This will be a short meeting to update you on your child’s progress and how they are settling into Year 4.

Our National Multiplication tables check will take place within the 2-week period from Monday 1st June 2026. Our big Chester trip takes place in February 26, additional information will follow.

School provides pens and pencils therefore children do not need to bring in pencil cases or any other equipment from home. Children must bring in a water bottle. Snacks should be healthy, either fruit or veg.

Our PE days will be Thursday so please come to school in your PE kit and suitable footwear on this day. Our PE uniform is:

-White Shirts (Plain or school logo)

-Black Shorts

-Black sports leggings

-Black Hoodie/Jumper

-Black joggers (for cold weather)

-Appropriate trainers

Please make sure all items are clearly labelled. Trainers should not be worn on other days. Children will also go swimming, to Garston, during the Spring term. Children will also be able to wear their PE kits on these days.

It is helpful if reading books are in your child’s bag every day, as there may be additional reading opportunities. Books will be changed once a week and reading records checked on Fridays. Please ensure that you have signed and recorded home reading. We ask that you spend the equivalent of 10 mins per school night (50 mins total) on home reading.

Spelling lists will be sent home with homework on Fridays. Children will complete a spelling test on the following Thursday. Spellings will relate to spelling rules learnt in English lessons. There will also be a piece of English and Maths that go out on Friday for the following Thursday. We greatly appreciate your support with this as it is an opportunity for your child to develop their organisational and independence skills.

Times Tables Rock Stars:

As there is a statutory Multiplication Check in June for Year 4, it is imperative that your child practises their times tables at home. By the end of Year 3, they should have learned the 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables. Please begin with these if your child is not yet secure. The 6, 7, 9, 11 and 12 will be learned this year. As we progress nearer to the MTC in June children will be given additional practice in school to help them prepare for this.

Please ask questions as you listen to your child read in order to help improve your child’s comprehension skills. The section above outlines the other ways in which you can support your child.
